In New Video, Chevron Urges Ecuador to “Keep Your Promise, Clean Up the Amazon”

Chevron has released a new video in its attempts to fight back against the campaign by “the Ecuadorian government, environmental activist groups and calculating lawyers” to “mislead the public and pressure Chevron into settling a multi-billion dollar lawsuit (over alleged oil pollution) against the company.”

This video highlights the fact that Texaco (now owned by Chevron) already cleaned up its share of oil production sites before leaving Ecuador in the late 1990s and that the Ecuadorian government is solely responsible for the current environmental and social conditions in the Amazon.

The Ecuador litigation, fueled by plaintiffs’ attorney Steven Donziger, resulted in a $9.5 billion judgment, which U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan later ruled was a product of “egregious fraud.”
