ILR President Rickard’s Op-ed On Texas Legal Reform Published In Austin American-Statesman
A recent op-ed by ILR President Lisa A. Rickard was published today in the Austin American-Statesman, praising Texas legal reform over the past 20 years which has helped “protect individuals, businesses and health care providers from abusive lawsuits by plaintiffs’ lawyers.”
Rickard submits that, in order to “ensure this progress continues, Texas must continue to lead on legal reform in the 2015 legislative session.”
Concerns about the current legal climate include homeowners who “could be held liable for injuries sustained by criminals trespassing on their property,” false medical claims, and the fact that defendants who are “found 15 percent liable in court could be forced to pay 100 percent of a judgment.”
