House Committee Holds Hearing On Potential Chemical Regulation

The Environment Subcommittee of the House Oversight Committee held hearing on potential regulation of a substance that one chemist said “[l]awyers are trying to grab onto,” Legal Newsline reports.

The chemical, known as PFAS, is commonly used by first responders as a fire suppressant. Chemist and environmental engineer Rich Trzupek said trying to regulate a single compound can lead to “chaos.” He added that he believes a driving factor behind the push for regulation are lawyers “trying to draw a direct line to this particular chemical, as usual.”
