Georgia Supreme Court Will Hear Lawsuit Lending Case
Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand said yesterday that the Department of Justice will review more class action settlements and take action when it finds a settlement that “isn’t fair or reasonable,” National Law Journalreports.
Though the 2005 Class Action Fairness Act allows the attorney general to review settlements before they are entered by a court, Brand said an “almost comical story of government bureaucracy” has minimized the use of this power. The department has only intervened in two settlements previously, Brand said, both of which were more than a decade ago.
She said to be “on the lookout in the coming days for the first example.”
