Candy Maker Says Lawsuit Over Sugar in Lollipops is “Nonsensical”

A candy maker said a California lawsuit that alleges the company’s lollipops are misleading is “nonsensical” because “everyone knows that candy contains sugar,” Legal Newsline reports in Forbes.

YummyEarth, based in Connecticut, is facing a lawsuit saying it misled customers into thinking that the lollipops were healthy since they said they contained “evaporated cane juice.” Even though that term is used, the company says the “product listed the correct amount of ‘sugars’ on its label.”

The company said the lawsuit represents a “larger misuse of the court system by the plaintiff’s lawyer,” who was named in a 2015 racketeering lawsuit over the alleged use of for-hire plaintiffs in class action lawsuits.
