60 Minutes Segment on Concerning Trends with ADA Lawsuits

In a recent 60 Minute segment Anderson Cooper covered “the way lawyers and clients sue retail business by the dozens or hundreds over defects in Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility compliance and then cash in the complaints for quick settlements.”

Cooper highlights the growing trend in “Google lawsuits” in which the complainant consults online aerial maps to discover potential ADA violations without ever actually stepping foot onto the property they plan to sue, according to Overlawyered.

60 Minutes also highlights an attorney who used “the same client” to sue “more than 60 defendants in 60 days over lack of pool lifts.” At last count, “that attorney has sued nearly 600 businesses in just the last two years, many for not having pool lifts,” according to the segment.
